Leading by example ''can boost motivation''
Thursday 22nd July 2010
Bosses looking to get a firm but fair balance should lead by example.
This is the view of Shaf Rasul, a dragon on Dragon''s Den online and a judge for the 2010 Orange Leader of the Year Award, who noted that he comes across fair but firm, which could lead to increased employer motivation and loyalty.
He added: "I take on board what all my staff are saying. We have regular meetings and I just wouldn''t expect somebody to do something that I wouldn''t do myself."
And taking an active interest in staff can improve morale within the company, he stated and his own employees are now coming up with suggestions on how to improve his business.
His comments come after a study by Reabur, a HR Consultancy, found that 21 per cent of Britons feel that they are "bullied" by their boss in the workplace, with 28 per cent reporting they are picked on by a colleague.
